In some relief to the Bar Council of India, the Supreme Court today directed Universities not to charge any fees for verification of lawyers. The order was passed by a Bench of Justices PC Ghose and Rohinton Nariman. Senior Counsel KK Venugopal, appearing for BCI submitted that Universities were demanding Rs. 200 to Rs. 2000 per person for verification of lawyers under the BCI (Certificate of Practice) Rules.
